Who we are

This policy applies to Energon Electrical Ltd, trading as Energon Electrical & Solar (“Energon”, “we”, “us”), based in Christchurch, Canterbury. It explains how we collect, use, store and share personal information when you visit our website, contact us or use our services, in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

We only collect the information we need to respond to you and do the work. Depending on how you deal with us, that may include:

• Your name, phone number, email address and property address
• Details about your property, your power use and the work you are interested in
• Information you give us through our enquiry form, our solar quote tool, by phone, email or in person
• Photos, plans or documents you send us about a job
• Billing and payment details for work we carry out
• If you apply for a job with us, your CV, references and the details in your application
• Basic technical information when you visit our website, such as your browser, device and pages visited

How we use it

We use your personal information to:

• Respond to your enquiry and prepare quotes and system designs
• Book, carry out and follow up on electrical and solar work
• Issue invoices, compliance certificates and warranty documentation
• Help you apply for finance, such as a bank green loan, when you ask us to
• Consider job applications
• Improve our website and services, and let you know about relevant offers where you have agreed to hear from us
• Meet our legal and regulatory obligations

You can ask us to stop sending you marketing at any time, and every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We only share it where it is needed to provide our services or where the law requires it, for example with:

• The software providers we use to run the business, including Fergus for job management (which powers our enquiry form) and OpenSolar for solar quotes and system design
• Suppliers, manufacturers and electricity retailers or lines companies, where needed to install, connect or register your system and process warranties
• Banks or lenders, if you ask us to help with a finance application
• Our accountants and professional advisers
• Government agencies or regulators, where we are legally required to

Some of these providers store information on servers outside New Zealand. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure your information is protected to a standard comparable to the Privacy Act 2020.

Cookies, analytics and third-party content

Our website may use cookies and similar tools to understand how visitors use the site and to measure and improve our advertising, for example Google Analytics, Google Ads and Meta (Facebook and Instagram). These tools collect information such as pages visited and how you arrived at the site. They do not tell us who you are.

Some pages also show content from other services, such as Google Maps and our Google reviews. Those services may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. The site will still work, although some features may not.

How we store and protect it

We keep personal information in secure, password-protected systems and only give access to people who need it to do their job. We keep it only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires, for example for tax, electrical compliance and warranty records. When it is no longer needed, we delete or securely destroy it.

Accessing and correcting your information

You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We will respond within 20 working days.
